What the cases are about
Legionnaires disease is a serious pneumonia caused by Legionella bacteria. The bacteria grow in water systems: cooling towers, hot water tanks, large plumbing systems, hot tubs, decorative fountains and misters. People get sick by breathing in the mist. Claims are brought against the owner or operator of the building or system that was not maintained.
Who may qualify
- You tested positive for Legionella, usually by a urine test or a culture.
- You had symptoms such as high fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, muscle aches, confusion, fatigue, nausea, chest pain or headaches.
- You can identify where you were in the ten days before you got sick: a hotel, a hospital, a nursing home, an apartment building, a gym, a cruise ship or a workplace.
What to send us
- The laboratory result showing the positive test.
- Your hospital records.
- Where you stayed or worked in the two weeks before you got sick, with dates.
- Any notice from a health department about an outbreak.
