Hair Relaxer MDL 3060 Status Update — May 2026

Last updated: May 2026 — Siddons Law Firm tracks active MDLs each month.

The Big Picture

In re: Hair Relaxer Marketing Sales Practices and Products Liability Litigation (MDL No. 3060) is consolidated in the Northern District of Illinois before Judge Mary Rowland. The MDL alleges that long-term use of chemical hair relaxers and straighteners — including Dark and Lovely, Just for Me, Optimum Care, Olive Oil, Soft & Beautiful, ORS, and similar products — substantially increases the risk of uterine cancer, uterine fibroids requiring hysterectomy, endometrial cancer, and ovarian cancer.

Recent Developments

  • Bellwether discovery in progress. Discovery is underway in the bellwether cases. Each bellwether plaintiff has been deposed and key manufacturer documents are being produced under the MDL discovery plan.
  • Daubert motions briefing. Both sides have filed Daubert motions on key causation experts. The outcome of these motions will substantially shape the bellwether trials and the eventual settlement framework.
  • Filing pace remains strong. Tens of thousands of cases are now consolidated. Manufacturers continue to face additional state-court filings outside the MDL.

Who Qualifies

Our firm is currently accepting hair-relaxer cases that meet all of these criteria:

  • Used chemical hair relaxers regularly (at least four applications per year) for one year or longer.
  • Diagnosed with uterine cancer, endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer, or uterine fibroids requiring hysterectomy.
  • Diagnosis confirmed by pathology.
  • Able to identify the brand(s) of relaxer used.

What This Means If You Used Hair Relaxers

The hair-relaxer MDL is in the highest-leverage phase — bellwether discovery and Daubert briefing — which means the next 12–18 months will define settlement values. Cases filed before the settlement framework typically receive priority. If you used these products regularly for at least a year and were diagnosed with one of the qualifying cancers, get evaluated soon.
